Snowbound Thoughts
When you get
The winter blues,
And snow keeps getting
Inside your shoes.
The drifts so high,
You’re snowed inside,
Tucked under covers,
Just wanting to hide.
You long for the day
You can stand in the sun,
In a short-sleeved shirt,
Just having fun.
But soon the snow
Will start to melt,
And spring’s return
Will soon be felt.
Next thing you know,
The heat will blaze,
And you’ll long for
The cooler days.
Such is the nature
Of the wheel of the year—
So enjoy the cold,
For change is near.

Author’s Note
I wrote this poem while sitting in the gentle South Florida sunshine, watching palm trees sway and thinking of my beloved family in the Northeast — currently wrapped in layers and surrounded by what looks like at least three feet of snow.
While I may not miss shoveling driveways or scraping windshields, winter still lives in my memories, along with a deep admiration for anyone who greets it year after year with warm boots and a good sense of humor.
Consider this my loving nod to snowy mornings, cozy blankets, and the quiet promise that spring always finds its way back.
Stay warm — I’ll be over here putting on sunscreen and sending you sunny thoughts.
Offer whatever name you wish to be known by at the hearth today — real or imagined — we look forward to welcoming your words into the circle.
